Loch Insch Fishery

The Fishery.

Excavated and formed during the Autumn of 1993 Loch Insch opened to fishing in May 1994. Kelloch, adjacent to Loch Insch, opened in June 1996 followed by Loch Colrayne two years later in 1998. The combined fishing area of the three lochs provides 11 acres of water of Bank fishing for fly anglers.

The fishery is located in the peaceful countryside flanked by Foudland and Bennachie hills deep within the heart of Aberdeenshire in north-east Scotland. Open daily all year round (weather permitting) the fishery offers first class trout fishing including a junior bait pond.

Loch Insch

This water ranges in depth from 4 feet at the north end to 15 feet near the outlet and at various strategically dug pots. This very fine water fringed with natural bushes and water plants, has a well established variety of insect life which have combined to give Loch Insch an enviable "top of the water" reputation for dry fly and buzzer enthusiasts. Floating lines are suitable for all conditions.

Kelloch

This lochan has a uniform depth of 10 feet with various pots and channels to a maximum of 20 feet. Kelloch improves annually and is rapidly gaining popularity with anglers yielding double figure fish in all conditions. Buzzers are particularly effective and the fish activity, especially in the hours preceding dusk during the summer, has to be seen to be believed.

Colrayne

This latest lochan varies in depth from 4 feet to the much deeper 14 feet at the largest Bennachie Pool. Sheltered along the full length of the south side with mature deciduous trees, this loch has shown wonderful promise and could on maturity, prove to be "THE TOPS" with dry fly.

Facilities.

The recently erected "Wooden Fishing Lodge" welcomes all visitors with seating provided inside and out as the varying weather conditions necessitate. A kitchen in the Lodge has free tea and coffee for anglers and also has a cooker and a microwave. These facilities are also equipped for the convenience of the disabled.
