GLEN OF ROTHES TROUT FISHERY
|
The Fishery. |
| The fishery is set in magnificent Highland scenery in the north
east of Scotland. The fishery is a member of the Association of Scottish Stillwater
Fisheries (ASSF). The fishery has 6 acres of water that provides excellent stillwater bank fishing for rainbow trout as well as browns, blue rainbows and brook trout. The lochs are mainly fly-only but there is also a smaller dedicated bait loch as well. There is also a dedicated coarse fishing loch, which has carp, tench and bream to large double figures. This is the only fishery in the north to provide coarse anglers with quality fishing in a peaceful surrounding at a reasonable price for a day’s fishing. |
StockingThe lochs are stocked on a regular basis, and daily during the summer, to ensure a steady head of fish that will give a challenging but highly rewarding day’s fishing. The average weight of fish caught has been steady at 2lbs ever since the fishery opened in 1994 and the record for the heaviest rainbow stands at 17lbs 8oz. Catches of over 30 fish for a day are quite achievable for those who have got to know the water and how it fishes. The fishery stocks a number of tagged fish each month and the angler who catches one immediately receives a free half bottle of The Macallan 10-year-old malt whisky. |
Facilities. There is a heated lodge with toilet facilities for the disabled as well as a sitting area and a selection of snacks and hot and cold drinks. Car parking is right beside the lodge and is 30 metres from the lochs but disabled anglers are welcome to drive right up to the edge of the water. There is also a large tackle shop on site for all your fishing needs and tackle is available for hire. There is a qualified REFFIS approved instructor and guide who is also a member of the GAIA, SGAI and the Fly Dressers Guild. |
